Introduction
Johnny Tran was an Asian man that multiple times crossed my path at the casino. He was 5’1’’ and the highest player tier at the casino; he had a rose tattooed on his neck; finally, he liked to drink, and it usually led to something crazy. I first encountered Mr. Tran very soon after we opened. We received a call of a disorderly patron in the Asian Pit (The pit that contains most Asian games such as Pai-Gow, Baccarat, Asian Poker, Tiles, etc.). We pulled up coverage and could see that no one was really reacting to Mr. Tran, however Mr. Tran seemed to be becoming increasingly perturbed. I couldn’t help but wonder why or how everyone was ignoring Mr. Tran. Suddenly, the tension boiled over. He stormed up to a random table, grabbed someone else’s Heineken bottle, and smashed it over his head. Security rushed over and hauled Mr. Tran out the door. On the camera, we were able to see Mr. Tran remove his shirt and walk down the street with his arms outstretched to the heavens. I thought this would be the craziest thing I would ever see Mr. Tran do..but I was wrong.
Coyote Ugly Return
The next time I saw Mr. Tran was a few months after he was in the first time. The casino was hosting a New Years’ Eve bash in the bar/club area with a few local celebrities and a band performing. Mr. Tran had been drinking a fair amount when a fight broke out nearby. The fight escalated to a group of people. During the anarchy, Mr. Tran grabbed a bottle of champagne from behind the bar; he proceeded to jump onto the bar and dance while shaking the bottle of champagne. He popped the cork and began to chug the bottle. Security had broken up the fight by this time and was attempting to negotiate Mr. Tran off the bar. Mr. Tran tried to run but slipped and fell into Security. They again hauled him out the door and evicted him.
Peeing on the Porsche
The casino, like most casinos, often did different car giveaways when I was there. One of the cars they gave away was a porsche. They displayed it prominently in the entertainment area outside for all the patrons to see. One night, the evicted Mr. Tran came in and was having a good time when he was recognized by Security and escorted taken to their offices. He was issued a criminal trespassing citation and asked to leave the premises. While in the office, Mr. Tran removed the shirt he was wearing that proudly displayed the name of our casino. He proceeded to rip it up and threw it into the trash can; he pulled it back out of the trash can before he left the office. The police allowed him to leave from Security. He then went through the garage and down to the plaza level where he saw the Porsche. He pulled down all of the stanchions that were surrounding the Porsche. He then threw his ripped-up shirt on top of the car; he proceeded to pull down his pants and pee on the car. Security at the first-floor entrance was doomed to watch without being able to intercede. The police ignored the reports when we told them what we had seen, however Mr. Tran began to try to come back into the casino following urinating on the car. He was in the elevator coming to the second floor. He kept looking at the camera and holding his hand to his ear signifying phone. He reported to Security that he had lost his phone on property. This man was by far my favorite patron and I was all for helping him locate his phone; he was turned away by Security who did not share my feelings for him. As he walked away, he pulled a dollar from his pocket which he ripped apart and threw into the air. He then walked off without incident.
The Bull in the China Shop
Mr. Tran was spotted on property again following his urination and citation incident. He was found walking into property by a Security Manager who recognized him from his previous endeavors. He turned Mr. Tran away and told him he was not welcome inside. Mr. Tran left and did not seem to mind; on the contrary he almost seemed to understand. By this time, it was Winter and therefore cold outside. Mr. Tran immediately went to work outside. He began tipping over the trash cans. He picked up and threw several ashtrays. He flipped 3 benches outside of the entrance. He began to walk toward a 4th bench as Security watched from inside. He stepped over some caution tape that was put up to block an ice patch; as soon as he stepped over the tape he slipped and fell on the ice. He got back up and ran at this point. He continued to throw ash trays the whole way up the side street, even lobbing one onto a second floor landing outdoor area of the casino. He then went across the street and was gone as quickly as he came.
Liquor For All; The Final Rodeo
There were of course times that Mr. Tran showed up and did not wreak havoc on the casino, but those moments do not stand out to me from my time there. The final vivid memory that I have of Mr. Tran was a normal weeknight that started out as a liquor theft from a bar. A Bar Back was working in an area cleaning up a closed bar. While he was distracted, he saw out of the corner of his eye a patron taking two bottles of liquor and leave the area. I tracked the area and found Mr. Tran take a bottle of Jack Daniels, and a bottle of Jim Beam and leave the area. He had baggy pants and was attempting to conceal his prizes in his pockets. While he was walking away, one bottle fell from his pockets multiple times. He stumbled drunkenly through the high limits pits yanking on locked table floats to see if he could get them open. He walked down into a closed off area and went to the night club / bar area in which he was one of a handful of people. At this point he pulled the bottles from his pants and sat them on a counter. The Security person assigned to the area did a double-take before calling for backup and escorting Mr. Tran from the property. He was cited and arrested at this time for failing to listen to the police prior.
Conclusion
Mr. Tran was a crazy individual who knew how to have fun and live it up regardless of the consequences. That being said, a casino is not the best place to behave in this manner. If you feel like getting a little crazy maybe consider doing it some place with less cameras.
