More Ego Than Sense
When I worked at the casino we had people that came and went in higher up positions. It was just the way the industry worked with it being a start-up. The person hired for the job didn’t want to put the effort into getting something established and up and running. They were hoping to come in and maintain the status quo; as such these individuals were generally gone as quickly as they came.
This story is not about one of these new people as well as one that was there since startup. The casino took good care of the management there. Supervisors and ended up with the short end of the stick often but managers and line employees had it good. Every week, the management staff met to “team-build.” This usually referred to getting a conference room at the Marriott, brainstorming, trading war stories, and drinking alcohol. One week, the management staff decided they were going to go bowling for their team building. The lot of them shipped out at 6pm at night and returned to property at around 11pm; everyone had drunk their fair share of alcohol. Most were done and went home but that night, the Slots Director (In charge of department), IT Manager (In charge of department), Poker Manager (In charge of Poker), and a marketing manager went to the bar next door to the casino and continued drinking. The slots director was brand new and they were all younger, so this isn’t anything too strange.
The group came out of the bar an hour and a half later and decided to split up. The poker manager and marketing manager left without any further issue in separate vehicles. Both were also picked up. The slots director and IT manager had a different idea. The two sat outside of the casino on a flower bed for about 20 minutes before they began kissing. They then drunkenly stumbled into the casino via the employee entrance. They were seen by Security and reported to us. We followed them upstairs on camera until they went into the IT office which had no cameras.
At this point we contacted my boss and notified him of what we had seen (He was on property, we normally would not have). My boss had mistaken the name of the IT manager for the name of the Slot Directors’ boss. He figured that she was having a meeting with her boss. An hour later my boss was contacted by Security asking for a key to go in. When my boss realized the error, they went to the door and went in after the two. My boss was able to open the main door with a key. He and Security had to force the IT Managers’ door open as he was holding it shut. When my boss entered the office was trashed. Clothes were everywhere; the computer monitor, and components were on the floor. The two employees had their undergarments on by this point. My boss allowed them to clothe before escorting them (still intoxicated) to Security. The Slot Director walked out with a suit jacket on (Bra visible underneath) and no shirt. The IT Manager was clothed but disheveled at this point. Both had their employee badges taken and were sent home.
Both of them were brought back to work 2 days later. Sometimes people make mistakes and for this I am understanding; however, sometimes people have a propensity to continuously make bad decisions. The slots director learned from her mistake and was allowed to keep her job.
The IT Manager decided that he was untouchable at this point. He was fired two weeks later for sending phallic pictures to different females on property. A Bill Cosby level scandal sank him in the two weeks that followed his first bad decision.
Regardless of your position, you’re never untouchable.
