At the casino we had a long-standing tradition of fights occurring on weekends to the point that you could almost set a timer.  It got to the point that they almost weren’t even fun to watch anymore; there was one however that stood out amongst the monotony.  This fight I have dubbed Wheels: A Tale of Two Thieves.

It was a normal saturday night at the casino.  The floor was busy to the point it was difficult for people to walk without bumping into other people.  Usually weekend nights follow this progression: 11pm everyone is happy, 1am people start to get restless and drink more, 2am bars close and everyone comes to the casino to keep drinking.  At that point all bets are off. This is the point in the night that people begin to get irresponsibly intoxicated.

This particular fight had 6 participants in it; two groups of three people.  One group contained 3 females, the other contained 2 females and a male. The group of three females was walking past the other group when you suddenly saw a girl from the group with the guy in it turn back toward the group of females and begin to stomp toward them.  She claimed that a girl in this group had given her a funny look. She yanked on the hair of a girl in the first group. This prompted the other girls to turn and a fight to follow. The only noteworthy part of the fight prior to it being broken up was when the gentleman in the group “300-style” Sparta kicked a girl in the a*s causing her to fall into a craps table.  Security was called and came to break up the fight.

Wheels was a bystander during the altercation.  He was also a man of opportunity. Before the fight completely broke out, all women involved tossed their purses to the side with no regard to their whereabouts or security.  Wheels came over during the altercation and took 3 purses from the ground. He immediately went to the bathroom with the purses.

I was called to review what had occurred with the purses following the altercation.  I told them that Wheels had taken the purses and went into the bathroom. The contents were fully recovered minus wallets and a knife.  Wheels was questioned and claimed that he had taken the purses but he was no longer in possession of any of the contents he took. While he was in the restroom, he said he was approached by someone that claimed to be Security.  This gentleman “confiscated” all of the stolen items from Wheels.

In review, the man was watching from an unclear location on the floor.  He followed Wheels into the bathroom and was gone as quickly as he came.

I like to think that Wheels learned an important lesson that day: In life there are those who are smart and those who are outsmarted.  Wheels was outsmarted on this day. Hopefully in the future he stops worrying about stealing and stops to enjoy the kicka*s spartan kicks that occur during fights instead.
