At one point in my career, I had the opportunity to work with a group of college interns. The interns primary job function was to answer the phones and log tickets. However, it wasn’t uncommon to see them coming in either hungover or dead tired from being up all night at the bar or partying. We each had a cubical and didn’t like using headsets, so we would just answer the calls using the speaker phone. One early morning one of the interns came in looking like sh_t and I believe still wearing the cloths from the previous day. He hops on the phones and starts to take calls. At one point, I hear a caller stating, “are you there” … “are you there”? I look over the cubical wall and see the intern fast asleep with is head down on the desk. Another intern had also heard the caller and put the phone on mute while he proceeded to say, “dude wakeup”! After a couple seconds the intern was back at it like nothing had happened. Just another day working with interns.
