This is part 1 that lists the excuses that Kevin provided when he didn’t show up to work, left work early or came into work late. These are in the order in which they happened. Enjoy!

Woke up Late

During this time of the year night shift hours were from 7:30pm until 6:00am. Kevin was schedule to be in at 7:30pm. However, he never showed up this night and the next day I asked why he didn’t come into work. He explained to me that he over slept and woke up at 9:00pm. I was completely dumbfounded not that he over slept which can happen but his logic that it wasn’t worth coming into work after waking up. He still could have worked another 8-9 hours if he would have come in after he woke up.

 

Presentation

Kevin started packing his bags one night and I asked where he was going. He stated he was going home to get some sleep so that he was well rested for a presentation he had in the morning.

 

Weather

I was told by my boss that Kevin couldn’t make it into work that night due to the weather conditions. I was confused because 300+ other people had no problems getting into work on a rainy evening. It wasn’t even raining hard enough to cause any flooding or road closers.

 

Driver’s License Expired

About mid-week I was talking with Kevin and he stated that he needed to get his picture taken at the DMV because his drivers license was going to expire on the coming Monday. I told him that he had plenty of time to get it renewed. However, on Monday night he calls off work because he has an expired license and can’t drive into work. However, he could have renewed his drivers license on Friday or Saturday but failed to do it and then used that as an excuse not to come into work.

 

Family Emergency

Kevin missed another night of work due to what he classified as a family emergency. He explained the events that happened the next day. Apparently, around 3:30-4:00pm in the afternoon his girlfriend was riding around on a kid’s scooter with flip-flops on and managed to rip off her big toe nail. He told me that his mom would not let him go into work and that he should stay with his girlfriend in the emergency room. Even after they left the emergency room he didn’t even consider coming into work that night which started around 7:30pm to 6:00am.

 

Dentist Appointment

Kevin left work at 12:00am because he needed to get some sleep because he had a dentist appointment at 9:00am that morning.

 

Chauffeur Girlfriend

Kevin left shortly after arriving to work and stated he had to leave because he needed to drive his girlfriend to her job. Kevin never returned to work that night. Later found out that his girlfriend works at a facility that makes and packages mixed salads. Kevin thought that his girlfriends $8 an hour job was more important than for him to continue working at his $20+ an hour job.

 

Girlfriend Took Car

Once again Kevin didn’t show up to work and the next day he explained that his girlfriend took his car because she needed to get to her salad making job. I asked why he just didn’t drop her off and he explained that she just took the keys and left him without any transportation.
